So I finally got around to making Mark Bittman's no-knead bread from that Times article a few years back. It really is as astonishingly easy as everyone says it is, and would be a great standard to bring to a dinner party--everyone loves fresh bread and it's awfully inexpensive.
You need a Dutch oven in which to bake it, and while I'm sure lots of you have fancy Le Creusets, I will take this opportunity to reiterate my belief that all you need is a good heavy cast-iron pot. I have this one, thanks to my dad, and use it constantly.
