A note on enjoying Halloween

I enjoy Halloween a great deal, largely because it provides an incentive for me to make awesome stuff, be it a coffin, a giant spider, or a pterodactyl costume. I have always liked making stuff -- in first grade, I insisted on constructing a homemade Valentine for each person in my class. Many of my friends also enjoy making things, be they edible or wearable.
But listen, here's the thing: it's totally okay if you do not. It is okay if you throw on a half-assed store-bought costume, or turn your shirt around at the last minute and claim to be Kriss Kross (actually, that's a pretty good costume. Someone do that). I like Halloween a lot, but it makes me sad to think that it is a stressful holiday for some people. It shouldn't be, any more than going to a friend's dinner party should be a stressful experience for someone who doesn't like to cook. Nobody cares if you bring a bottle of wine instead of a homemade pie! So look. If you like making stuff, I hope you get as much out of Halloween as I do. Otherwise, look at it as an opportunity to drink with your friends and take some good photos. And please stop whining about how "I haaaaate Halloweeeeeen," because it kinda makes you look like an ass.
P.S. Go Phillies!
