The senate timeline is really interesting (even if I don't understand how they scientifically plotted the representatives on the liberal-conservative spectrum).

For instance, look at the senate median line to see how the Republican Revolution that started in 1994 actually reached its peak in the beginning of 1999. Ideological control of the senate was actually returning to liberals for almost three years until 9/11 created the "conservative bubble" that is bursting today.
